Native Americans called Sodus Bay Assorodus or “silvery waters,” a name that is as apt today as it was then. Settlers renamed it Sodus Point in the late 1700s. Sodus Point later become an important shipping port with a rail line that connected it to Pennsylvania and its valuable export, coal. Little is left of that era at Sodus Bay but the lighthouse and limestone keepers quarters built in 1871, which is currently used as a museum.

Today, Sodus Bay is one of the most popular and beautiful spots for sailors along this shore of Lake Ontario to visit. If you are lucky enough to be here in autumn when the leaves are in full color, you will never forget the splendor of this magical bay.
