Fairport, NY
Located at Mile 246 on the Western Erie Canal, Fairport is considered one of the must-stop places on the Canal. Overnight docking, with a nominal charge, is available at the Village Docks, which is situated on both sides of the Canal. The Village of Fairport is just a little over one and a half square miles so almost every place is within easy walking distance.
Known as "The Jewel of the Erie Canal," Fairport has always been closely connected to the commerce and the beauty of the canal. The Village prospered and grew with the canal opening in 1825 and later weathered the decline of canal based commerce. Over the past fifty years Fairport has reinvented itself with a focus on quality of life and amenities. When you visit, take a stroll through the charming village and explore the unique shops, cafes and restaurants. Walk or bike along the Erie Canal Heritage Trail to enjoy the scenery and the historic Lift Bridge and Lock 32 at Pittsford. If you are lucky enough to be visiting during Fairport Canal Days in early June, join in the festivities, which feature live music, food vendors, arts and crafts. The Fairport Music Festival at the end of August takes place in over 20 venues, bars, and restaurants, and all within walking distance of the docks. The local farmers market is on Saturday mornings (May to November) at the Fairport Village Landing.
