Northport serves as a gateway to the other cruising opportunities on Grand Traverse Bay. The historic Grand Traverse Lighthouse (231-386-7195) is open daily for tours daily and also has a popular “volunteer lighthouse keeper” program where volunteers can stay at the lighthouse for a week, doing chores, running the gift shop and enjoying the sunsets. Tree-lined neighborhoods of whitewashed frame houses sit in neatly manicured side streets.
