Jewel Island, ME
Deserted except by boaters and maintained by Maine State Parks, Jewell Island is a prime example of what mariners hope to find in Maine. The island was a World War II outpost for submarine spotting. The tower is open for climbing and offers a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Maine. Local tales put both Captain Kidd and bootleggers ashore with their different treasures.
