Great shallow anchorage never saw less than 7 ft at low tide. Holding was good until someone decided to tube with their family 100 Ft off our bow (reason for 1 star wake protection) for a couple hours then add all the jet ski's. Next time we are going to use the deeper anchorage on the other site of the bight. It looked like there was a lot less traffic over there. Once the sun started going down most of the day boaters started clearing out and the bight became smooth as glass. very impressive views of the light house. You can get great sunset and sunrise scenery from one location. if you dingy to the light house there is a gift shop and sometimes a food truck by the ferry dock.

We spent over a week here in July 2023. Although there are a lot of day boaters, and the national park, think of it as anchoring out without services. That said, there is excellent wave protection and very good holding. A beautiful place for an extended stay with great beaches to walk and lots to explore with a dinghy. It is busy, especially on the weekends. Our charts were accurate, and we had no issues with depth.

Nice spot with good protection from wind and waves from the East and South. Less small boat traffic and day fisherman.

    Charts bring you safely in.

A favorite destination as a local boat. Protected and holds very well. Anywhere along the northern beach inside is perfect. Lots of water right up to shore for easy dinghy rides to the beach. Visit during the season and ride the dinghy to the lighthouse and take a tour to the top. Beautiful views!

Very nice and scenic. Good holding. Wind was from the north at 20 and not terrible for us? Good get away.

Great place to have a mini vacation. Endless beaches, lots of shells. Plenty of room for everybody. Be aware that at night there are critters outside your hull that will make funny noises. Its a mixture of static and a wood pecker. They calm down later at night and won't harm anything.

This is a large anchorage. It is open and has good breezes in hot weather. You can almost always find an anchorage with protection from the wind, except due northers. All shore access is beach. There are no dinghy docks. With 5.5 feet of tide you will want a light dinghy you can carry above the tide line, or have the ability to anchor it off the beach. None the less theiis a spectacular anchorage. Generally quiet except on summer weekends, it is beautiful spot to get away from the crowds and go for a long walk on the outer banks beaches.
