Arrived at 4:30 pm on a Sunday, with loud partiers. By 6:00 pm we had the place to ourselves. Sheriff Deputy stopped by and was super nice. Told us that 3' is about it for draft to come up all the way to the spring. Else anchor out and come up with dingy. He said the state is working on getting rid of the derelict boats. Gators, manatees, racoons, turtles, etc. Enjoying a lovely peaceful quite night on the hook in the spring. Crystal clear water.

Draft: 2.5'Overall Rating:4Holding:5Wind Protection:5Current Flow:5Wake Protection:5Scenic Beauty:5Shore Access:3Pet Friendly:2Cell Service:3Getting in requires a shallow draft boat. My 30-inch draft made it in. The shallowest water is outside the channel in Lake George. On my path in to the first channel markers I saw depths as low as 3 1/2 feet. This is an amazing place, with crystal clear water and abundant wildlife, including manatees, several species of fish, turtles, and lots of birds. You can see clear to the bottom in depths of 8 or 9 feet. I came during the week and it was crowded with boats. Unfortunately, a lot of the boats seem permanently anchored, with no one aboard, in the middle of the lagoon. Other than one overnighter who left not long after I arrived, everyone else was a day-tripper. Generally well behaved boaters just anchoring around the lagoon, watching the manatee from their boats, swimming, or snorkeling. When the day trippers left, I had the lagoon to myself -- with the permanent boats. It was extremely quiet with no wind or current to speak of. I woke in the middle of the night hearing beeping sound that was apparently coming from one of the boats. I also heard water splashing sounds and turned on some lights to see hundreds of fish jumping in the water. It was pretty amazing. I would have stayed a second night, but in the morning a very large houseboat came in, dragging two of the channel markers with him, and parked beyond me blocking the channel. I witnessed him throw in an anchor, narrowly missing a bunch of manatee that had followed him in. Another rental houseboat came in soon afterwards. I could imagine the second night being loud with partiers on their boats and I really didn't want them to spoil the magic of the place for me. So I left.
A side note here: Florida really needs to get its act together on the abandoned boat situation. I counted 10 unoccupied boats in a small and naturally beautiful wildlife habitat. Most of these boats were an eyesore and took up a lot of precious space. While it's one thing to see boats abandoned in anchorages along the ICW, it's another to see them spoiling an otherwise pristine natural area.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Everything mentioned before still applies. Several houseboats were there this year. Amazing clear water, like looking through air even in 6 feet of water or more.
Not many boats during the week. Big change on weekends.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Popular on weekends. Much quieter weekdays. There's a park swimming area at the spring. Stay between the red and green markers getting in.
Popular for shallow draft boats.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer
