    Talked to the lockmaster on 11/1/2024. He reported that the construction project will be going on for a long time - well past the published end of Nov date and into 2025.

    I was told that that all traffic can transit during daylight hours on Saturdays and Sundays. During the week, traffic can pass 5pm overnight until 7am,

    Recreational vessels should definitely call and confirm before planning a passage through these floodgates.

    Visited here during a cruise ship stop in Sept 2024. So, we arrived on a boat "somewhat" larger than our 40 foot powercat. This marina is at the cruise port, so you would be in a high-tourist traffic area when cruise ships are in port. Cruise passenger walk down the pier right next to the marina. The marina is fenced off from the cruise port, but there is a dock level restaurant on the marina docks with an open gate. There were two cruise ships in port when we were there, so lots of foot traffic in the area. Plus sounds of live music from restaurants and bars. Restaurants and bars are within easy walking distance. The marina does accept transient boaters, prices are on the website. Electricity is charged as a separate per-day fee, depending on what kind of hook-up you need. Looked like water is available at the slip. We liked the look of the place, despite being right at the cruise terminal. If we get this far north in our travels we'd gladly stay here.

    Great place.

    Just off the ICW. Just as you turn into the marina, there are some tricky currents until you get inside. I was expecting to feel more wake action in our slip from the passing barge strings. There was only a little, definitely not a problem.

    On departure, be careful not to cut corners to sharply, go all the way into the middle of the ICW before turning E or W. You might find a mud bank and hang up.

    I made a reservation and was advised they do not pre-assign slips. The staff would meet me at the dock, wave me in to the slip, and catch lines. That is exactly what happened. I double checked, and was told that there is staff overnight, and that they would be watching for my expected 5:30pm to 6:00pm arrival.

    True to their word, as I turned into the marina about 5:30, three guys came down to wave me in and help me get tied up.

    Floating docks appear newish, and are in good repair. 50amp power and water at the slip. They have wide slips for catamarans or other wide boats.

    Diesel and gas are available on site. No pumpout. They have a boat repair shop as well.

    There is a small ship's store on site, with snacks, beer, ice, fishing supplies and boat parts. Bathrooms & showers are in the marina office building and are neat and clean.

    No onsite restaurant. The closest restaurant is Dorado's, about a two or three block walk, just outside the marina gate. We ate there, and enjoyed the meal. Other restaurants and a convenience store are about 1/4 to 1/2 mile walk.

    $2.50 per foot, plus $20 per night for AC power. So not cheap, but given the good condition and friendly reception - I am OK with those prices.

    Second visit to Galveston Yacht Marina, and a much worse experience.

    Spent three nights here March 2024 at the start of a trip down the Texas coastline. For a transient boater, really the only advantage of this marina is the location - on Galveston Island, near the touristy things you might want to do in Galveston.

    The marina goes out of its way to be difficult. There is more paperwork, more hassle and more cost to rent a slip for a night or two, than in any other place I have stopped in about 1,750 miles of boat travel.

    The transient price is $3/foot. The highest I have paid anywhere in more than 1,700 miles of boat travel.

    The facilities are old, and not in any way luxurious. The quality of the facilities does not justify the $3/foot price. To be fair, there is evidence of some recent updating. Bathrooms/showers look new and well maintained.

    The piers are fixed concrete docks, so be very careful coming in and out. There is a wheel at the corner of each finger pier to help avoid horrible gouges on your boat hull if you were to misjudge the turn into the pier. Covered slips are available.

    The fixed concrete finger piers are low to the water, so you may need steps or a boarding ladder to get on and off your boat. Lots of fenders are a must, do you are not banging up against the concrete piers.

    They give impression that they don't want transient business. You have to fill out a transient slip application and email to them, along with copy of your boat insurance. They then email you a slip contract, which you must sign electronically, and then call and give them your credit card number. Slip fees are non-refundable. So, if you decide to leave a day early, they will not refund the excess payment.

    In March 2024 when I was here, the website said that the marina office is open seven days a week, 7am to 5pm. Not true. Not open on Sunday. So if you arrive (as I did) just after 5pm on Saturday, there is no way to get a card key on Sunday to access the restrooms or to get in and out of the marina gates. We could have left leave, but then would not be able to get back inside the Marina fence to return to our boat.

    There was no way to talk to anyone on Sunday. No one answered the phone for the marina office. The dry stack operation is staffed on Sunday but could not help. The marina's harbor master answered his phone, but could not help with getting a card key on Sunday.

    The office absolutely dropped the ball. I reserved a slip and told them I would be arriving Saturday afternoon about 5pm. No one mentioned checking in at the office before 5pm or that there might be a need to get card keys. Apparently, they could have (but did not) leave card keys at the bait camp/fuel dock.

    There is an on-site bar & grill. Nothing fancy, but it is right there. I did not eat there, as the lack of a card key meant I could not leave the docks to go over there and get back in to my boat.

    The prices, and the hassle, are no doubt a product of the fact that Galveston Yacht Marina pretty much the only marina on the Island. That, and it is no longer locally owned, it is part of a national marina conglomerate. There are some other options in the general area of Galveston, but not near the Strand tourist areas.

    When I was finally able to talk to the office staff on Monday, they agreed the website needed to be corrected, and agreed they did not manage the situation well. There was a gracious apology, and a partial refund.

    I am not a fan. But if you want to be close to the tourist attractions and restaurants, this the only real choice on Galveston Island.

    Visited here by car 3/2024 while scouting out possible weekend cruising destinations.

    The marina looks well maintained, with docks in good repair. Gas, Diesel and pumpout are available. Able to accommodate boats to 50 feet, many slips are 20 feet wide. 50amp power at larger slips, smaller slips with 30amp.

    Marina office reports that there is usually about 5 feet of water in the approaches, but cautions to pay attention to state of tides when entering and departing the marina.

    A restaurant and Hyatt Regency hotel share the parking lot.

    Looks like a great location for a quick overnight weekend trip.

    I was quoted $1.25/foot/night for a transient slip, but the office cautioned that rate sometimes changed if they were full up for an event.

    There is a park or greenspace right next door, with walking paths.

    Visited by car 2/2024 while scouting out marinas for a planned cruise down the Texas coast.
    The marina is in town and near city hall. Google maps shows some stores and restaurants within reasonable walking distance. Not fancy, but looks well maintained with docks and piers in good condition. There are locked gates at the shore end of each pier.

    On site manager says most slips are 19 feet wide. She reported that water depth should not be an issue getting in or inside the marina for most recreational boats.

    I was quoted $1.50/foot per night for transient space. 50amp power and water at the slips. Diesel on site, no pumpout.

    Not a fancy "resort" style marina, but this looks well maintained and in good shape. Transient rate is reasonable. Looks like a perfectly reasonable choice.

    I was quoted $1.25/foot for a transient slip. Discount for weekly stays. Most slips are 19 feet wide, plus some space might be available on a T-head for wider boats. 50 amp power and water at the slip. On site pumpout and diesel. I forgot to ask about pumpout fees, but the website shows $25 for pumpout.

    Just off the ICW. Depth in the marina was reported to me as 5 to 6 feet. Marina facilities appeared to be in good condition, with piers in good shape. Overall, looks well maintained.

    There are two on-site employees - Dock Master and Harbor Master. They live on site, and the houses are have prominent signs. One of them is supposed to be on-site at all times. Transient slip are on the pier directly in front of the house labeled Dock Master.

    I was told they "don't really do reservations." Call a day in advance, then call back 1 hour out.

    On site restaurant is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

    Harbor Bait & Tackle is the onsite baitcamp place, they sell the fuel, and offer bait, fishing supplies, snacks, drinks, etc.

    I like the look of the place, we will probably stop here on our cruise.

    Visited by car 2/2024 while scouting marinas for a planned cruise down the coast. I was quoted transient rate of $100/night. Water & 50amp power at the slip. Fuel & pumpout are available. Onsite ship's store has a deli with limited food items. The onsite restaurant was destroyed in a fire, and has not been rebuilt.

    The grounds are resort like, and are in good condition. Swimming pool and mini-golf are onsite. The marina is inside a gated area, with a guard at the front gate. Marina grounds are remote, nothing is within walking distance.

    I was told depth inside the marina is about 10 feet, with approaches shallower at around 4 to 6 feet.

    I live in the area, and keep my boat at Blue Dolphin. Plus, I have a friend who keeps his boat here.

    Probably the best value in the area. Most of the slips are covered. There are some uncovered slips for sailboats. Marina management seems to be present and paying attention, but without being a pain in the neck. Docks and slips are in good repair, and the covered slip buildings are in good condition.

    Restrooms on site are in reasonable shape. A boaters lounge is available in the same building as the office.

    Not sure if they are set up for transient boaters, so call the office and ask.

    No pumpout. No fuel. No ship's store.

    Stayed here for one night in May 2023, as I was bringing my boat back to Texas.

    Long bulkhead for side tie. Power and water available. You will need lots of fenders, as the pilings are on the outside of the bulkhead in some spots. Look for a drop box on a light pole. Open the top, and grab an envelope-fill it out, put your cash or check in the envelope, and then drop in the slot.

    There is a restaurant across the street, and a nice coffee/ice cream shop about 4 blocks down, next to a small city park. You are right next to what has to be the oldest part of Morgan City, with old buildings. There is a small general hardware store about two blocks away.

    Be careful entering and exiting, as there are shallow spots. Check Navionics or AquaMap before approaching or departing.

    This area is covered by USCG Vessel Traffic Service. Call "Berwick Traffic" on CH11. Check in with VTS before crossing under the RR bridge. When travelling westbound, check in with VTS when exiting the nearby lock.
    When I get ready to cast off and head out the next morning, I checked in with VTS and they coached me on how to avoid an uncharted shallow spot.

    Marina seems well maintained. You can call the lodge, and a car will cover over to pick you up to go over to the restaurant. Small store in the marina with snacks and drinks.

    Spent on night there on my way down the river system.

    This is a very basic stop. There is a short metal dock for side ties. A few power points - four I think. 50amp power worked just fine for my boat. And, fuel. No other services. There is a RV park run by the same folks right there on shore. The on-site restaurant no longer is in business.

    Safe place to tie up with power, assuming you get one of the spots against the dock. I was there in May, before there was much recreational traffic in the river. So, I was the only boat there the one night.

    Some reviews say there is a bathroom on shore, I did not look for it and did not notice one.

    Owners were friendly. The RV park folks were quiet.

    This long-time Galveston marina has been purchased and updated by new owners. The new name is Galveston Yacht Marina, the prior name was Galveston Yacht Basin. There is a bit of sticker shock here. In June 2023 when I was here for one night, a transient slip was $3/foot – the most I paid for a slip in a 1200 mile trip. In addition to the price, getting a transient slip here comes with a paperwork burden – forms to be filled out and emailed in, together with a copy of your boat insurance. Then you call the office and give them your credit card number, then they email you the slip agreement which you sign electronically. All for a one night transient slip. It was enough to put me off the marina, but they charge $3/foot because they have a good location right in the middle of everything in Galveston. Facilities are better shape than when I was last here, 5 or 6 years ago. The piers are fixed, concrete. There are roller wheels at the end, to help avoid horrible cuts/scratches if you misjudge your turn into the slip/ There is an onsite bar and grill, menue. But it is in the marina, so convenient. Restrooms on shore. Fuel dock is available. The Galveston tourist area with restaurants, bars etc is a short uber ride away. A bit further than you would want to talk in the Texas summer heat. Power worked, and the marina appeared to be oldl, but cared for.

    Great ICW marina for recreational boaters. In June 2023, I was moving my boat westward through the ICW headed toward Galveston.

    The plan was to stay one night, but several days of high winds/high waves in the forecast meant that I parked the boat here, went home to Houston and came back four days later to finish the trip.

    Transient boats are put on the T-head across from the fuel dock. There are signs that identify those spaces as transient. 30amp, 50amp power and water at the dock. Fuel and pumpout available. Pumpout is self servce, and no charge. Looked like both gas and diesel are available, I did not need fuel, but did use their pumpout .

    When my plans changed, and needed to leave the boat for a week, they asked me to move my boat around to an open slip, to leave the T-head free for any other transient boaters. In the slips the fingerpiers are very short, depending on configuration of your boat, you might need to back in.

    Restrooms / showers are on shore, I did not use them. Washer /dryer is available at the office building, as is ice.

    Security seemed good - I saw the local police department cruise thorugh the grounds once, and the County Sherrif's marine unit has their office next to the marina office. There is a locked gate at the entrance, and you have to press the buzzer to be let in.

    One night, with 50amp was $46. A week in a large slip was just over twice that - a bargain!

    This is a fairly remote location. No other serivces onsite, and nothing within walking distance. You can see the little town off the distance, but nothing is close by.

    The entrance into the marina feels narrow and tight, and there can be some current and wind action that pushes you around a bit. Inside the marina seems well protected.

    Fixed docks, with sliding tie up points on the posts. Docks, piers and everything seemed in good shape and well maintained.

    Staff reports they sometimes see an alligator on the grounds and docks overnight, so cautioned us to be aware when walking around after dark. No alligator sightings for us, however.

    The only downside is that if you are travelling the ICW, you have to go about 7 or 8 miles south out of your way to get there, and then bacak up that distance to get back into the ICW. But, its the only recreational marina in the area.

    I spent one night here in June 2023, on a trip to move my boat from New Orleans home to Texas.

    Shell Morgan is a great place, even if the facilities are limited. Basically, it's a commercial fuel dock with a couple spots for recreational boats, and two power points for 50Amp power. Water is available. Not much here.

    The Shell Morgan building is red, with SHELL MORGAN in large white lettering. Fuel pumps directly in front of the building. Turn in off the ICW, keep the office on your port, and the very small number of spots for pleasure craft are to starboard on the bulkhead opposite the office. The bulkhead has a faded yellow stripe and is rusting. Rig your fenders low.

    50amp power worked just fine. One water hose on the pleasure boat side. An older review commented on brown water. The water seemed clear, but was slightly colored from minerals.

    I called them about 1:00pm, and made sure there would be space for me. They were shutting up for the day at 2pm, and said we could settle up in the morning after they open at 7AM.

    I fueled up the next morning, the lowest cost diesel in a 1,000 mile trip. I told the two guys who work there, that they were famous in cruising circles, and that we appreciated them providing a spot for recreational boaters to tie up and have power and water. They told me that they have fewer and fewer recreational boaters in recent years, plus the oil business used to be their bread and butter, and that has faded. And, the shrimpers are having real trouble making ends-meet. This place is important for cruisers crossing this part of the ICW. It's the only recreational boat dock for a LONG way. I hope their business survives.

    Very simple marina, with limited services - power and water. Floating docks are new. You need a code to get through the gate onto the pier.

    30Amp, 50Amp (and 100amp I think) were available. Unfortunately like many newly built marinas, the electrical system is sensitive. My boat has two 30 amp circuits. I could only use one, the other (even by itself) tripped the circuit breaker at the pedastal. I was here in June 2023. Fortunately, the power circuit that worked for me here, was the part that power my boat's air conditioning!

    No other services onsite. The marina is at a city park, and there are restaurants within walking distance.

    The price is defintely right - $20 per might.

    I left my boat here a week, waiting out some bad weather.

    This is first time in a 1,000 mile trip where I locked through with barges. Two tug boats, with short barge strings went in first and tied up to the wall. The Lock directed me to just float in the chamber behind the second barge. Rather than literally float in the middle, I drifted over to one side with fenders against the wall. This was a very short rise in the lock, maybe 18 inches.

    I'd read that recreational boats should check in with Berwick Vessel Traffic Service. I emailed them, and asked what they wanted from recreational vessels. I was travelling westward from Houma toward Morgan City, these were the instructions from the VTS supervisor.

    Good morning Sir,
    You are not required to check in, but upon departing Bayou Boeuf Locks it is helpful and does improve situational awareness for VTS participants.

    VTS Berwick Bay working channel is VHF-FM channel 11. You can also call the watch center at 985-380-5370.

    I followed this advice and called "Berwick Traffic" on exiting the lock. This was useful for all concerned, as VTS was paying attention to me, and politely got me to move when I was waiting in a bad spot for a barge to clear a bridge.

    Marinas for pleasure craft are few and far between on this stretch of the ICW. This one is entirely adequate. Long wall for side tie, a few power pedastals. On a busy night, late comers could conveiveably find all the power points in use.

    Safe place to tie up, 50amp and 30amp power, water and pumpout. I did not use water or pumpout.

    Next to a small city park with playground, and ample dog-walking space.

    No security.

    I arrived late. The harbormaster did not answer the phone, and his voice-mailbox was full. I sent an email to listed email contact offreing to pay. No one is on sight to collect money.

    In a small side channel off the ICW. There is substantial barge traffic, but that did not cause noticeable rocking overnight.

    Left my boat here for a couple of weeks, while I went home to catch up on work.

    The marina appears well run. Substantial concrete piers. Power and water at your slip. On site pumpout, but no fuel on site.

    Several restraunts are within walking distance.

    On site security person roams the marina overnight.

    The downside - transients do not get a weekly or monthly discount. The person I talked to did not know that, and quoted me a monthly rate - then called back two hours later to tell me she had been wrong.

    A lot to like especialy if they would give transients a weekly or monthly discount.

    My experience was not confidence inspiring.

    May 23 - I call them - "My generator runs, but does not produce power, can someone come look at it? The answer was yes, tomorrow. The next day - "When will your guy come over?" The answer was, well..... it will be a couple days.
    May 24 - stood in their office. "I need you to look at the generator on my boat in the next week, I'll be back in 10 days to continue moving the boat. Can you do that? Can you diagnose and do likely repairs in that timeframe?" The answer was a definite YES.

    A week later - "Have you looked at my boat?" No. We will send someone tomorrow. I call them the next day "Have you looked at my boat?" No, Our guy will go look at it on Monday. I call them on Monday - "Have you looked at the generator?" No, we will send someone on Wednesday. I call them on Wednesday at noon - "Have you looked at my generator?" No, but our guy is going to go over shortly, I'll call you back. I want until about 3:45 (because they go home at 4) - Our guy just came back from looking at your boat, it requires some work we can't do in the next couple of days.

    Grrrrrrr... This is why we had the discussion on 5/24 about getting this diagnosed & completed in the next week.

    Always polite and encouraging in person and on the phone. But, there was a total lack of follow through and an impressive amount of foot dragging.

    So, I can't comment on the quality of their work. But, the total lack of follow through was maddening. I understand that this would be a small job, and they might be too busy with larger jobs to deal with it promptly. But don't tell me you can do it, when you clearly could not.

    In preparation for a transit through New Orleans, headed toward Texas I emailed the Coast Guard's New Orelans vessel traffic service about how / if they wanted recreational vessels to check in to VTS.

    Here is the response I got from the Watch Supervisor for Vessel Traffic Service LMR.

    "Even though you're not required to participate, we would like for you to give us a call on Ch12 (New Orleans Traffic) if it is available on your radio or Ch67 which is the Bridge to Bridge radio telephone Channel in the Mississippi River. The reason being is so that we know you're in the area and we can inform other Ship/Tow traffic, who are required to check in."

    "Also, after you exit the Industrial Canal Forebay, we request that stay as close to the Left/Right descending bank as possible while transiting up river to the Harvey Locks. Most vessels usually stay on the Left Bank until reaching the Locks and then cross over but the right descending is fine if that is what you prefer."

    Spent one night here, May 2023.

    Fixed docks are substantial, and in good condition. The docks are relatively high, so you're your fenders rigged accordingly when you come in. I called in mid-afternoon, and was told to check in at the fuel dock, to pay for the slip. We arrived around 5:30 and the guy at the fuel dock came down to catch lines, and then checked us into the marina.

    They advertise that the fuel dock is open until 10pm, good if you are coming in late and leaving early.

    50amp power and pumpout available at the slip. Showers, restrooms, laundry at the marina office building. Free wifi.

    I called the office to find out how to use the at-slip pumpout, and they sent over staff to grab the cart with the hoses and adapters, which he brought to the boat and then showed me how to work the system.

    The docks are stout, and clearly designed to withstand hurricanes. Concrete pilings, with substantial timber facing. All in good repair, and quite sturdy. The whole place looks new and well maintained.

    The marina staff recommended one nearby (walkable) restaurant - Shaggy's Gulfport Beach. We did not venture out. Google Maps shows 1/3 mile. The Mississippi State Aquarium is also quite close, didn't venture over there either.

    Also in the same general marina are, is the local USCG station – three of the 87 foot coastal patrol boats and couple of the small response boats were tied up across the way.

    I would definitely stay here again.

    Spent one night here in May 2023, while moving my boat home.

    This is a basic marina. Fixed wooden docks. The restaurant/bar is right there – we were tied up less than 50 feet from the bar, and the door the restaurant was just around the corner of the building.

    50amp power was available, and worked just fine. City water right there, as well. I took on diesel. The marina staff was helpful, caught docklines and helped me get fueled.

    I tried to get a pumpout, but oddly they were unable to do so because they did not have the typical universal flexible rubber fitting, only two screw in fittings – neither of which fit my boat.

    The onsite restaurant is OK for what it is – mainly fried platters.

    I did not check out the bathroom or shower. The staff took my bags of trash, and disposed of for me.

    Anchored out one night here, in May 2023.
    We needed a safe and secure spot to anchor out below Bobby's Fish Camp and before we got to Mobile. I'd planned to go further downriver, but two short but fierce rain squalls, several barges and a bunch of fishing boats all slowed me down.

    This is a safe anchorage out of the river. We pulled in about 100 to 150 yards, and anchored on one side in about 15 feet of water. I tossed out a stern anchor, just to make sure we did not pivot out and block the way for the fishermen who use this cutoff.

    Safe and secure all night, we did not drag and the anchor came up clean.

    cellservice available for Verizon and T-Mobile, though weak.

    The only downside – about a gajillion mayflies took up residence all over the outside of the boat.

    Stayed two nights here on a trip down the rivers to move my boat home.

    I knew it was going to be a long day, and that we would get in after the office closed. Called them first thing in the morning. They held a spot for me, and then texted me (as promised) about 3pm with the details on the location for my slip including a picture of the dock layout map, with my slip circled.

    We got in around 6:30pm, so no staff around. We pulled into a slip on a floating dock which was in good repair. 50Amp power and water available at the slip.

    The marina is relatively large. Marina office and fuel dock are a good walk around. You might call the office, and see if one of the staff can come pick you up in a golf cart for the ride over and back.

    Large boater's lounge with restrooms/showers and a bunch of coin operated washers/dryers. Neat and clean, but the AC was cranked up way too cold in the restroom/shower area. Brrrr…. Too cold for me. Open air gathering space and bar(?) on the roof of the building, but underneath the tall roof covering the boats in covered slips.

    Entrance was a bit shallow, but there was more than enough water for my boat, and deeper inside the marina.

    Fuel dock has gas, diesel & pumpout. Some of the slips appear to have a pumpout fixture every other slip, cart with the hose at head of the pier. I did not pumpout here, so no experience to report.

    The Marina Office, which is at the fuel dock, has a very limited supply of things. T-shirts, sodas, a few snacks, a very small selection of some marine supplies. Other than a bunch of Kingfisher Bay marina t-shirts, not a lot of selection.

    There is a swimming pool, which we would have used but for an afternoon rainstorm. Lots of grassy areas for dog walking. No dogs with us, but we saw others out walking dogs.

    Courtesy van is available, call the office to sign up for a two hour timeslot. Walmart, fast food, banks, etc are about a 10 minute drive.

    I liked this marina a lot.

    Spent on night here May 2023, on a trip to move my boat south down the rivers toward home.

    I called the marina on CH16 from about 1.5 miles out. They talked me in off the river with clear directions. There is a literal field of exposed tree stumps in the water, so pay attention and listen to their advice. Private buoys mark the fair water. Not hard to navigate, you just have to pay attention and getting directions from marina staff made it easier.

    Staff member came out to wave us in and catch dock lines.

    I got a side tie on a long pier. 50amp power and city water at the slip. Office has a few snacks, and a large walk in cooler of beer.

    And, three dogs. All friendly.

    The docks are old, but the one we were on had sections of bright new wood, and other lumber in evidence showing that work was in progress.

    On site restuarant was not open the night we were there. Coutesey car is available. Restaurants and Walmart are nearby, about 5 miles.

    The marina is exposed to the river, not up an inlet. So could be rolly from big wakes or strong winds. Not an issue when I was there.

    Marina wifi seems pretty good, Verizon and Tmobile had coverage at the dock, with one or two bars.

    Simple, but adequate. Great location for breaking up the long group of locks.

    Pickwick Lake State Park Marina
    Spent one night here in May 2023, on a trip to move my boat down the rivers.

    The marina is next to Pickwick Lock and Dam. The channel into the marina is well marked, with plenty of water depth for my boat's 4 foot draft. I called ahead and asked about transient space. They put me into two slips just down from the fuel dock. Even though I was taking up two slips with my power catamaran, they only charged me for one slip. Since this is a state park, there are no BoatUS or AGLCA discounts.

    Once I cleared through the Pickwick Lock, I called the marina, A couple guys came down to catch dock lines and generally give me a hand getting sorted out. Water and 50Amp power at the slip. Showers are a short walk up the hill.

    The nearby state park lodge has a restaurant, which will send a car over to pick you up from the marina. We called the lodge, and went over for dinner. Nothing fancy, but tasty. We both had a fried catfish/ship dinner and some ice cream. Hit the spot.

    If you need groceries, stuff from Walmart the like, the marina staff recommended "The Happy Hippy" who will go run those errands for you, and deliver to the marina. Brian Riley – 731-727-5077.

    Gas and Diesel and pumpout are available at the fuel dock. I took advantage of both while I was there.

    If you have been cruising for a while, you might want to look into a hotel room at the lodge.

    No loaner car, but the lodge will send a car over to pick you up to eat in the restaurant. No groceries on site. The marina office only has sodas and a few snacks.

    Coming south down the river, I called the lock from about 2 miles out, but was unable to reach the lockmaster on VHF 16 or 13. You may need to be close in to talk to them, possibly within sight.

    We were there on a weekend, fishing boats were all over the place, they moved out of the way when the lock chamber opened and a barge started coming out.

    There is a good sized area where you can loiter waiting for your turn in the lock. Given the fishing boats, I stayed off to the side, near the federal mooring cells.

    We were directed to tie up to the far end of the lock chamber, where the turbulence would be less. It was pretty bumpy as it was.

    Lockmaster requested we run a line from foward cleat, two wraps around the pin on the floating bollard, and then tied off to the midship cleat.

    He was right - the turbulence was enough that we needed that holding power to keep us safely attached.

    I hailed the lock on CH13 and made the arrangements on that channel.

    Spent one night here in May 2023, on a trip to move my boat down the rivers.

    Not sure why this marina seems to not get noticed. Perfectly friendly, and a comfortable place to tie.

    I called them to confirm that they had space for a transient boater, which they did. The transient space was a side-tie on a long-ish covered pier with lots of houseboats as your neighbors on the covered side. The transient spaces are not covered. No cleats where they had me tie up, just to the vertical posts.

    I called them from a couple miles out, and two guys came out to wave me in and catch dock lines.

    The entrance into the marina off the river has skinny water. When I talked to them, they indicated that the water depth was usually about 5 to 5.5 feet. My boat draws 3.5 feet, and I had no trouble. As I came in, the shallowest I saw was about 6 feet. Navionics Sonar Charts covers the marina entrance, which was reassuring.

    The entrance channel could definitely be better marked. Very small private buoys are placed in the turn off the river. I was puzzled for a minute when right after the turn in, there is a red and a green in what looks like a straight line. Finally decided to follow the buoys and kept the red to starboard, and swung over to put the green to port. I held my breath, but did not touch bottom.

    One downside – My tmobile hotspot could not get a signal at our slip. My Verizon cellphone had connection, and I could use make calls, send texts and use internet. My son's Verizon cellphone never did get signal here.

    Onsite restaurant wasn't open for the summer season yet.

    50 amp power (only) for the transient spots. Water should have been available but a plumbing problem was being worked on. They offered to run a hose to me, if I needed water.

    Offered a BoatUS discount on the slip.

    Spent one night here in May 2023, on a trip to move my boat down the rivers.

    The channel in from the river is well marked. Follow the small buoys that float low in the water. Navionics Sonar Charts showed 7 feet or more nearly all the way to the fuel dock. There was plenty of water for my 4 foot draft boat.

    The marina was quiet when I was there. They put me on the long (300 foot) floating pier to the left of the fuel dock. Easy in and out, with a side tie. 50amp AC, and water at the dock. Diesel was available at their fuel dock. The marina offered a discount for AGLCA or BoatUS members.

    Washers/dryers and showers on shore up the hill toward the on-site RV park, but I did not use. Courtesy car available. They suggested Tequila Johns about 3 miles away as the closest restaurant. OK Mexican food, but it is really a bar that offers some food. We were there on a night with live music – a guy with guitar singing country music. The space is small, and the music was too loud to hold a conversation.

    On my trip, the onsite bar/restaurant was not open.

    The entrance to Johnsonville State Historic Park is just outside the Marina gate.
    Cellphone service was "iffy" but available in my slip.

    The setting is peaceful. I liked the place.

    Second stay at Green Turtle Bay Marina - 5/2023. On the transient dock next to the marina office, fuel dock, showers and laundry.

    Used the washers & dryers. Buy roll of quarters in the marina office.

    Had dinner in town at Pattis 1880, which is nice. But, not gourmet. In some ways like an over the top Cracker Barrell.

    Had one meal onsite, at the Thirsty Turtle Tavern, which is really a pub that offers some food. We had our car. Would been nearly a 1/2 mile walk to the Thirsty Turtle otherwise.

    The Commonwealth Yacht Club is nex to the transient dock, but only open Thurs though Sunday, so not open while I was there.

    Spent one night in the marina in 3/2003.

    Called them from the Barkley Lock and they met me at the fuel dock. Fueled up and filled the water tank.

    Our slip was on the section next to the marina office and the showers & laundry. Finger piers on both sides. The slip was plenty wide for my power cat's 16 foot beam.

    No problems with wonky power that trips a circuit somewhere or prevents you from running heat or AC on your boat.

    I was there in early March, so they had not yet turned the water back on at the dock. but, they warned me about that when I called ahead.

    Clean restroom/showers.

    I used the washers and dryers - $1.75 for each machine. Quarters only. Sign said you could buy quarters & soap in the marina office.

    Used the courtesy car, and went into town for dinner at Patti's which was quite good. From there went across the street to Village Market & Cafe. There is a small deli counter, but this is really a very small but very adequate grocery store. Able to find pretty much everything I needed to stock up my galley.

    Great free wall tie up location. You tie up on the wall, opposite side of the lock - so lock traffic will go past on the other side of the wall.

    Secure tie up, out of the wake of passing barges, and with essentially no current to toss you around.

    Not sure what the review is talking about that says the cleats are massively far apart. In 3/2023 I stayed there to wait out some bad weather. Cleats are spaced about every 30 feet on at least the first two sections of the wall. Might be a little further apart on the section closest to the dam.

    I got busy coming in, and paying attention to the barge coming out of the lock. The lockmaster hailed me on CH14 to find out what I was planning. I should have called before turning up to head toward the lock.

    I had initially thought about heading up river to a marina in Evansville, IL - but it seems to be out of business. All the phone numbers I could find were out of service.

    Hoppies is still there and still in business as of Feb 2023. The barges are rusty and raggedy.

    Water not available. Fuel was available. Electric is available.

    Not much there - just a couple of very rusty barges, and place to tie up, fuel up and plug in your power cable.

    The two restaurants in town were not an option since we arrived at 5pm. Blue Owl closed at 3pm, and La Chance winery closed its kitchen at 5pm.

    We called on the phone two hours out to let them know we were coming. They asked us to call again on CH16 when we got near. When we called in range, they told us to prepare for a port side tie and came out to catch lines and help us tie off.

    Spent one night there at the very end of Feb. they put my power cat at the end of the dock on a T-head, which was perfect. One of the staff came out to catch lines, which was helpful.

    The bathrooms and showers had not be re-opened for the season, but power was on at the slip. Friendly folks, and reasonable slip rate.

    Pool not open yet, but looked like it would be fun in warm weather.

    The Mel Price lock is just down river - at the office they said it was a mile or mile and a half walk. More like 2.7 miles. Walked down there to eyeball the lock I'd be going through the next day. There is a museum there, and a short tour that will take you out to the edge of the lock and then up to the upper part of the structure.

    I bought a boat that was then lying at Port Charles Habor, and kept her there over the winter while they did some maintenance work I needed and I waited for warmer weather.

    I spent a couple of days living aboard in the marina getting ready to move the boat south.

    Lots of good things to say about Port Charles Harbor.

    The maintenance / repair guys did good work. They communicate well, and the pre-work estimates were spot on. When it turned out the boat had about 17 layers of bottom paint instead of the expected 3 or 4, they called me to discuss the extra cost and the time needed.

    They recently switched the wifi over to being fed by Starlink. So wifi was good, of course I was there in February when basically no one was in the Marina.

    Docks are in good repair. Water and power at the dock. Water to the dock turned off over the winter, of course.

    Showers/restroom in the building that houses the office and parts department. Shower and restroom were clean, and there was plenty of hot water.

    Diesel & gas are both available.

    Because I was headed out in late Feb, they called me in advance and asked how much diesel I was going to need, to make sure they had enough on hand.

    Kind of a drive into town for grocery stores, HomeDepot, Target or U-Haul (for propane tank refills). About 20 minutes. I had a rent car and took Lyft back to the marina after I turned the car in.

    In Feb 2023, the marina reports having a courtesy car, which I did not use.

    Not a fancy place, but seems well managed with competent repairs at reasonable prices.

    Tied up at the lower end of this lock twice in summer 2022. Once for a couple hours for lunch, then a week later overnight. Very quiet and peaceful. Both times, there were only one or two other boats tied up there, and there were not boats passing through the lock.

    Power is available, for a small charge - I've forgotten what I paid - maybe C$10? Depending on where you are tied up, the power pedestal might be set back a bit from our boat - the lock staff loaned us an additional power cord as the two we had would not quite reach. Some spots are much closer to power points, just depends on where you are tied up.

    Power available only on one side - your right as you are heading from the lake toward the lock. There is space to tie up on the other side, but no power over there.

    This lock station is remote, no services within walking distance. A bit buggy, which meant we passed on our plan to take our bicycles out for a ride.

    We were tied up next door at Len's Cove. The town docks are perhaps a 100 yard walk.

    The town docks look to be in good repair. Some 30amp power outlets are visible for the spots closer to shore. A new section of dock added to the end does not have power. The older closer to shore section of dock does not have power for every space, but as long as you have a second extension cord, you would likely be able to plug in.

    No water or other services. Sign says public restrooms are at the community center building, which is a 3 minute walk up the hill.

    A signboard lists the fee for per night for transient dockage. You put your cash in box - honor system.

    The Galley Restaurant at Len's Cove is right there - you can see it from the town docks. There is a pizza place a few blocks away. Portland Foodmarket is more of a large convenience store, with a very, very limited stock of groceries. Not really a great place for stocking up on groceries.

    We walked around the little bit of town right around the marina - there is not much there. A few blocks of houses, a community center building, post office, LCBO liquor store, pizza place, one art gallery "open by chance or appointment" according to the sign.

    No dock hands to help you tie up.

    Called the marina office as we got within sight and were told E dock, slip 14. Neither the dock nor the slips are labeled, so that did not help much. I made my best guess, then walked around to the marina office to pay and find out exactly where I was supposed to tie up the boat. E dock is right in front of the restaurant that is in the Marina, called the Galley.

    The restaurant is nothing fancy - hamburgers and fish and chips, and a few other things. But, apparently popular locally.

    Stock up on groceries someplace else. The nearby Portland Food Store is really not much more than a large-ish convenience store with a very limited grocery selection.

    Not much to say about this marina. It was a spot for the night. The docks were in good repair, power (30amp) and water worked as advertised.

    The on-site store was closed the day we were there. Sign on the door said only open on weekends. There are restrooms in the marina, which we did not use. Laundry machines were not available, closed for COVID.

    Lots of boats in the marina, very few transients spending the night.
    Not close to anything.

    CC's on the Rideau restaurant is nearby (as the crow flies) - but not walkable. You'd have to walk the long way around the cove to get there. CC's apparently has some dock space, but we did not go over to the restaurant.

    We were charged $2/foot.

    This is a great stop on the Rideau canal system. The marina is right in the middle of the village. Within a two block walk are bakeries and grocery store. Another block or two, will take you to hardware store, gift shops, and several restaurants.

    The marina has 30amp power to the dock, plus water.

    Study the chart carefully, the buoys marked on the chart to the North mark an approach that is apparently shallower than suggested on the chart. In summer 2022 another set of buoys marked a slightly deeper approach to the south side. These buoys to the South are not shown on the chart.

    Call ahead, and marina staff in red shirts will come out and wave you in to your spot, and help you tie up. Marina staff came by once or twice a day and asked if they could pick up any bag of trash we might have.
    Marina office can supply you with maps and info for the village.

    Floating docks, but as another review noted - these docks float low. About even with the swim platform on our boat.

    We liked the marina and the village enough that we decided to stay two nights, and then extended to a third night.

    No restrooms or showers in the marina. These are about a block and a half at the village visitor's center. We did not visit these.

    Quiet marina. Our first night, there were only three other boats with anyone aboard. The marina did get slightly busier toward the weekend. But still a nice quiet place.

    We'd come back here.
