Went through eastbound on 7 Dec 19. Bridge operator didn’t answer right away, barge operator ahead of us told her we were calling. Plenty of room to turn circles while we waited.

Tied up here because Morgan City dock was shoaled in. No amenities but an easy walk to a good restaurant. Occasional trains and car traffic make this a noisy area. Very happy it was available.

Spent the night of 5 Dec 19 here. Arrived well after closing, but the staff left the showers unlocked for us. They were very helpful each time we called during the day to ask questions. The wind was blowing stink when we arrived, so we ended up tied at the fuel dock for the night. No power available at the fuel dock but it was better than moving to a side-tie in the windy conditions. I filled some water jugs, but the next day realized the water was brown so dumped it.

Good protection available. Several barges during the evening and night but no bother from wakes. Depths are a little unpredictable. Took us a while to nose around and find a good spot. Very peaceful.

Went through eastbound on morning of 4 Dec 19. Called lockmaster by phone and he was very helpful. Although we had to turn circles for a while, he put us at the front of the que. He even called us several times with additional instructions while we waited. Pay close attention to depths— we went aground while making circles but fortunately were able to get ourselves free.

Stayed here night of 3 Dec 19. As mentioned in the marina notes, we called ahead for a reservation. The person taking the reservation was not aware there was a marina at the casino. She probably was not on-site, but it was surprising anyway. Power and water are included, however there were no other amenities for the marina. The staff was very helpful and courteous, but there wasn’t much they could do. The manager did make arrangements for us to shower at the spa which was great. The only latrines were in the lobby of the hotel. It’s possible that the casino beach bar has latrines and showers available, but it was closed for the winter. Also, the outside music blasts 24/7. We asked about turning it off for the night but the manager said he had no control over it. If you want to gamble, this may be alright for a stop, but if you want a break after 3 days on the icw this probably isn’t the place.

Anchored night of 2 Dec 19. Good protection from wakes in most of the anchorage. Good depth and swing room except there are a LOT of crab pots. Holding was good in soft mud, but winds were light so didn’t really put it to the test.

Anchored early morning (0200)2 Dec 19 about .2nm NW of the anchor symbol. The turn in from the icw was crowded with dredges, and there were a few barges beached near the entrance. Once past them, the way was clear to the anchorage. Winds were very light but holding was good. Depth was at least 9’ all the way to the banks. This was our first stop after departing Clear Lake, TX.
