The channel leading into the river is shallow and only 4.5' wide! That gives you about 2' on either side of your center board. I ran aground and recovered once going in and four times coming out. If you have a draft of 5' or over, be very, very careful navigating the channel at the entrance to the river. Take it very slow and be prepared to back down if necessary.

Good holding on clay bottom. You do get some wake action from passing barges but it served the purpose. Anchorage is in sight of the Dauphin Island bridge with houses lining the shore.

Pretty location far enough off ICW for wake protection and protected from gulf currents by the island. Island is a bird sanctuary and national park. Pets not allowed.
