Docks were rundown and sketchy looking and the homeless camp 0.1 mi away were enough for me pass this one right on by

we arrived mid afternoon. Beautiful Park with joggers and bicycling. There were lots of kids fishing with moms and Grandpa's. we did not feel unsafe. We did not see any sketchy homeless people living in bushes as other reviews stated. at the far West end you can hold three 40' + foot boats. the East end where there is power it's a very rough.

We tied up to the new docks at the west end. The rest of the free wall was VERY run down. There is no electricity or water at the west end docks. A person we spoke with that works for a respected governmental agency STRONGLY recommended that we not spend the night there. Lots of homeless people living in the bushes around the park. He said it is safe during the day but not at night. We decided to not spend the night there.

We found that this stop was not catered to cruisers at all. We had to tie up to the concrete wall which was in very poor shape. It was difficult finding a safe spot to tie up due the poor condition of the timbers and the large amount of old, rusty bolts sticking out. The park itself was nice but there was only one garbage can around. The washrooms and showers in the Navigation center were in good condition, but were locked at 7:10 am. It was a fair walk to the laundromat and shopping. The train crossing is close by but not visible. If you need to stop, it's workable with proper fenders and dock lines but, I would pass on this one.

Newer West dock looks like a floating dock, but it's fixed. About 4 looper boats fit. We docked in about 10ft at the West dock. There is no water or electric.

The old East dock is in serious dangerously disrepair. Big bolts exposed were dock wood has rotted away. There is power but docks are too dangerous in my opinion.

The park is nice and well kept. Perfect for walking dogs. Showers and laundry are across the street at the Navigation center.

Lots of shops from Aldi to hardware stores within walking distance.

    We really liked this place.

There is room for three boats on the West end docks, if people share. We ended up using the East end wooden bulkhead, not as bad as first thought, must be very careful getting off/on boat however. We have 12" diameter fenders which worked well and there are at least two working electrical stands with 50 amps, so we enjoyed A/C during a very humid/hot afternoon. The stands are slimmer than normal and grey, no water. There is no laundry, at least we couldn't find it, there is a laundromat up near the Freedom Mall although we didn't try it. Lots of goose poop the last day we were there and always quite a few people fishing. We stayed two days so we could see Fort Stanwix and get haircuts. Be away the water is quite shallow everywhere in this area, i.e. 7'.

Very nice canalside park with a lot of grass and trees; park restrooms and shower were clean and found about .25 mi down the walking path (best to take path and go under the bridge, facilities are in a pavilion up the stairs on left). About one mile walk to groceries, restaurants and laundry. The new docks on the west end are fixed (not floating) with cleats, rings and enough room for three looper boats. We had 7.7 feet at the middle spot but it quickly shallows at the far west end by the red ATONS where there is a small floating dock for personal watercraft. The shower room was locked but we found a friendly park staff who had no problem unlocking it for our stay. Lots of people fishing but no one catching. Fort Stanwix was very worth the short walk and a couple hours to learn about history and the importance of this travel corridor before it became part of the Erie Canal. No goose poop here…at least not today! Jun 4-5, 2023

Nope. There were about 5 red ATONs lined up in front of the new dock at the West end. That did not look inviting to me, neither did all the people with their fishing lines out.
The wooden piling further along are so dilapidated that it wasn't even worth attempting to tie up at them.
I do not recommend planning on Rome for a stop along the canal.

Convenient stop for overnight at a free wall along the Erie Canal. Newer docks on west end had 9.5 depth and cleats/rings for tie off. Restrooms and showers are great but are located east of highway bridge in the Rome Navigation Center. Close walk to town for food, restaurants and other supplies. Will definitely come back.

We stayed here 2 nights due to the weather. We stayed on the floating docks right next to a red Aton. There was no power nor water available. We could not locate the restrooms. There is a bike trail nearby. We had dinner at Coalyard Charlie's , a short walk from the docks. Nice grassy area to walk the dog right by the docks but the con was a lot of Canadian geese droppings everywhere you walked.

Nice stop. Has floating dock and large wall. Sections of the wall need repair. We were on the floating dock. The kids like for fish off of it. Very nice park and safe. Short distance to town for restaurants. No electric or water.

Stopped at Rome NY today. Good fixed docks, three loop boats will fit. There is 9 feet of water at the easterly portion of the dock, and 5.5 feet at the west end. Easy walk to Coalyard Charlie’s. Can’t say enough about Coalyard Charlie’s. Great food, steaks and Seafood. Good service. Reasonable prices. Only heard one train. People fishing at the docks. Walleyes under the dam. The wall is in disrepair, but could be used in a pinch. I measured 9 feet at the wall. There is no electricity at the docks. There are a couple pedestals on the wall, but I did not check them out. I’d stay here again. Grand Banks 42CLASSIC.

2 small floating docks. We had 3 40 ft plus looper boats tied up with bows sticking off. No power. Has bathrooms, showers and a laundry in a new building a short walk from the piers. The docks are in a large park and there are numerous 2 miles or longer walks for a dog. The town is a short walk with good food and an Italian grocery store. Several people stopped by to see if we needed anything. One man dropped off fresh hot donuts and bread from the local bakery.

Small floating dock ( for two looper size boats), the rest of the bulkhead was so bad that I would not stop no matter how many fenders I had. If you can't get here early and on the floating dock, I suggest you pass on by and go to your backup spot. There is a wide spot in the canal just west of here to anchor out if needed.
