John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, FL
The John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Largo Sound offers glass-bottom boat tours, scuba gear rentals and instruction, boat rentals, a campground and a Visitor’s Center with a 30,000-gallon saltwater aquarium.
There are 50 miles of natural mangrove trails to explore by kayak or stand-up paddleboard (available for rent) and the underwater park contains 178 square miles of mangrove swamps, sea grass beds and coral reef including the larger of the two living reefs that lie in Florida waters.
Abundant reef fish live around the coral and there are several shipwrecks creating an underwater paradise for divers and snorkelers. Only hook-and-line fishing is permitted in the park.
