Narragansett Bay, RI

Narragansett Bay, RI

Although Newport is a world-class yachting center and a high point of Narragansett Bay, the Bay has much, much more to offer. Narragansett Bay stretches 18 nm from Block Island Sound to the Providence River and was named for the original inhabitants of Rhode Island. The bay is also an estuary of national significance and a spawning ground and habitat for winter flounder, lobster, hard shell clams, seals and eel grass.

Rolling hills, green fields, woods and houses surround Narragansett Bay. It offers protected waters, well-marked waterways, sheltered coves and attractive ports of call. You can anchor nearly anywhere you find a lee or a cove and in many places you can go ashore to swim, picnic or hike.
