We loved this stop. Be sure to go past the Reedville Market before dropping anchor -- Cockrell Creek seafood is across the creek and there is a huge menhaden boat that needs to get in there, so you don't want to block them. We took the dog ashore at the restaurant docks. Sadly we got in Sunday night and left Tuesday morning, so not much was open. We walked down to Fawn's Delectables for a treat Monday morning! The town is historic with amazing Queen Anne style Victorian homes. Lots of nice walking on the side streets. Snug spot. Easy approach from the bay.

What a fun stop! Huge floating docks. I would only stay there in settled weather -- it's wide open to the huge river. Exceptional dock staff, very professional. Ryan even gave me his personal cell in case we needed anything. Enjoyed the National Battlefield, the Museum of the Revolution, and the Watermen's Museum. Saturdays there is an amazing farmer's market and the York Fife and Drums will perform. The Yorktown Pub was terrific and not too pricey. Be aware there is a current that will affect docking.

Yes there is construction going on. It didn't seem to be messy or inconvenient to us. We had a nice floating dock and felt secure. Good bar (with a nice happy hour) on premises. Nice showers and laundry (machines take credit cards not coins). They texted me a map of the marina before arrival, so we knew where the heck we were going! Loved that, it was great customer service. Good walking in town, some good restaurants (beer garden especially), Children's Museum, theater. Plus we took the ferry over to Norfolk and tours the USS Wisconsin, an absolute must. You need exact fare OR you can get tickets at the corner of High St and Water St at the kiosk. We rented a car (you can walk to Enterprise if you don't mind a sketchy neighborhood) and visited Williamsburg.

This is a great place to stay when exploring the island. The dock was is great condition (fixed). When you arrive or depart, try to time it so there is no ferry in port -- they run their powerful engines on high the entire time, causing a strong current throughout Silver Lake. If you have to pass behind them be ready to crab sideways, and docking can be difficult (obviously not for *us* but we saw others struggling). Recommend renting bikes and heading out on the bike path to the beach. Also you can walk (or take the golf cart trams) to Springer's Point preserve, where there is a nice protected beach with no surf. The grocery is expensive but adequate. We enjoyed meals at Howard's Pub (an old favorite). Showers were super humid and left me sweating. Yuck.

This was a terrific stop. The docks are fixed but there is very little tide (all wind-driven) and everything is in great condition. There is a small current to be aware of when moving around the docks. The dock hands are very attentive (and they have dog cookies). We tried to tip them and they kept insisting that they would simply use the money to buy bottled water for the dock office. They have very nice bathrooms, free loaner bikes, and laundry that costs $5/day (no matter how many loads). We biked all over -- there is a super Walmart and a Lowes within striking distance, as well as a Tractor Supply (they refill propane). No Uber that we could summon though. Plenty of pleasant walks, a dog park about a mile away, and dozens of outstanding restaurants. Loved our time there and it felt like the town truly welcomed us. I hope to go back!

Corbin was a huge help in getting on the dock and loaned us bikes so we could get out to Family Dollar and the coffee shop. Blackbeard's Tavern has great burgers. Showers are adequate and clean but not fancy, and have no climate control. Nice pavilion and waterfront lounge chairs. You will be waked by passing boats and in any south wind will make things bouncy. The docks are old but adequate and Corbin said they are being replaced in October '23.

Unique! It's a bit confusing where to actually dock, but here's what we discovered: There are 2 docks. The southern dock has both 110 outlets and 30a. The northern dock has only 110, and some of the outlets didn't work or had burn marks. If you use the north dock, you need to go all the way to the southern end of it to stay away from the shrimpers. Dockage for the night plus a pound of shrimp came to $24, which made me feel like I was robbing them! It was interesting to watch the barges running right past us. Very buggy and nothing to walk to. Short fixed docks with pilings for both stern lines if bow-in. The pool is terrific. Showers were fantastic with the marina providing towels, soap, shampoo, and a hairdryer. We borrowed bikes from Inland Provisions and visited Seacoast Marine Electronics, who helped us with an electronics issue (highly recommend!). There are not many slips and there was no electric available, so I'd skip this in the heat of summer. No bathrooms, we walked to the boat ramp at the corner of Turner Street. You can walk under the bridge, then there is a mown walkway between the bridge and the dry-stack. You can easily walk into town from there, or cross Turner Street and walk down West Beaufort Rd to the hardware store, Roland's BBQ (yum), or the Piggly Wiggly. We thought the showers were great -- I'm not sure what other people encountered but there was a ton of water pressure and plenty of hot water. He came out to make sure everything was in good shape several times during our week here. There are 2 dinghy docks -- one at the end of Sandpiper Lane (this one is great for beach walks or to use the bathrooms), and the other at the far south end of the harbor (across the street from Island Burgers and Bites, which has terrific burgs). One negative is the lack of showers, but we walked down to the state park and used the campground showers (yes it was a long way but it's a beautiful hike). There is a dog park on the island as well -- at Mike Chappell Park, again a long walk but worth it for the pup. You can walk to Publix, less than a mile from the dinghy dock. There is also a more beachy grocery at Sea Merchants -- closer to the dinghy dock but limited selection. Auto parts store on Cape Fear Blvd, close to the dock. Plenty of great beach walking and good food, so this is terrific stop.

The good: top notch docks with easy access from the ICW. There's a good restaurant with great music on weekends. You can walk to a great beach and we walked to Harris Teeter (2.3 miles away). Even found a dog park!
The bad: expensive with absolutely no amenities to justify it. The bathroom at one point had no toilet paper and was filthy (same toilet paper and debris on the floor for 4 days), rustic shower, the laundry didn't work, I couldn't find a trash can (I used a construction dumpster), no waste oil disposal.
The ugly: Seems like there's no adult in charge, just some kids of questionable maturity (I could tell a tale but won't). We were there in a big blow and a huge plastic dock float washed up between 2 boats. Our neighbors hauled it up onto the dock to prevent damage to boats. It was there 2 days later. Same with metal signs that got knocked off of pilings when the tide rose quite high. The dock staff was hard to find. They never, ever answer the phone, after something like 20 tries I gave up.
If you have no other choice, this is a safe place to be. Just have low expectations.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

We couldn't pull the boat over to the finger dock at low tide so we had to launch the dinghy to go ashore. They are replacing H dock this May and it desperately needs it. The pilings are being eaten through by worms, in many places they are half gone. They would never hold a boat in a storm. The docks are quite weathered and full of splinters. The finger docks are rickety, narrow, and very short. Considering the price, the condition of the docks is disappointing.

This marina is shallow. We were on H dock for 3 nights and teetered on our keel for 3 hours during each low tide.
The amenities here are nice and the restaurant is good. You can walk to Publix. However, there's no other walkable destinations, it's industrial around the marina.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

This is well-protected but the waves wrapped around the corner so we were rolling a bit. You can access shore; look for the old boat ramp with the gate across it. We stepped ashore there but hid the dinghy to the east, in the mangroves. The walk over the bridge is great. You'll get noise all night from the causeway but in a north wind you'll be happy to be here.

This is a must stop on the ICW. The mooring field is snug as can be, protected 360 from winds and swell. We had a couple good blows during our stay and were cozy. Easy dinghy access, nice bathrooms, huge parks (including a 5 star dog park), a beach within walking distance, free buses (Publix, West Marine, and a Walmart grocery are all on the route that stops at the marina), and some yummy restaurants. It's easy to see why this place is called velcro beach!

This is a terrific stop along the ICW. The price is incredibly reasonable. The docks are fixed but not so high that it's a struggle to get off the boat, even for our dog. The marina is a bit exposed to NE winds, otherwise it's quite snug. Moorings are available. There's a solid ship store with some boat supplies and ice cream. This is a great place to watch rocket launches, you just need to walk south of the bridge (or to the top of the bridge). There are tons of businesses within walking distance: Save-a-Lot (basic grocery, do not expect Whole Foods, make sure you bring a quarter for the cart), Sunrise Bakery, Playalinda Frappe -- which is actually a Puerto Rican restaurant with fantastic, cheap meals, Playalinda Brewery, a Cuban bakery, CVS, and several fast food places, to name a few. The #2 bus can be picked up right in front of Save-A-Lot, bring $1.50 in exact change for a one-way ride. It will take you to Publix, Harbor Freight, Aldi, Lowe's/Home Depot, and Super Walmart. We got an Uber and visited the Kennedy Space Center, highly recommend but it wasn't cheap. Our dog would like to add that the two parks on either side of the marina are wonderful, including the dog park (ignore the sign that says "no animals" on the sidewalk as you walk there). Another great walking route is up and over the high-rise bridge.

Terrific stop! This is a charming, small marina. The docks are fixed, FYI. It was easy in easy out but the dog had trouble getting on and off the boat as the dock was so high. Bathrooms clean, terrific clubhouse (open daytime only), and they have ice cream! We loved the many walking paths in the area, they go for miles. Highly recommend.

As folks have noted, the outgoing tide here is wicked. You will not be able to turn around on an incoming tide, so you need a port side tie.
Incoming isn't so bad, you may be able to turn around. The docks are in good shape and it's a snug spot in a blow. The bathrooms near the dock are so low that on high tides septic backs up into them and floods out of the floor drain. There is a better bathroom on the east side of the big blue building. Room for 5-6 boats, if full you can raft, or anchor across from the boat ramp.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

This is a fair weather anchorage, especially vulnerable to south winds. Holding is good. As of 1/19/23 the dinghy docks are still closed. You can get ashore briefly at high tide (low tide will take you in to mud).

Nice protection except due south, but even that's not bad. The boat ramp has trash cans and a bathroom open 24/7. About 1 1/2 miles to Dairy Queen, and a small grocery. We got waked by a large tug in the middle of the night. For GA, the current isn't bad here.

This anchorage is preferable to the one south of Morningstar marina as it more protected from a S blow (in fact this is preferable to the marina in a storm). There is shore access at the 2-hour free dock just north of the bridge. We've also gone ashore for a short dog walk at the Epworth-by-the-Sea center (don't know if that's okay but we did it anyways).

You can go ashore in 2 places. The first is at the Ferry dock. In a southeast blow this isn't advised however. There are bathrooms and water available at this site but it's not very scenic. If you have bikes, though, you can head over to the UGA campus, the Reynold's Mansion, or Hog Hammock. You also can rent a golf cart from Sapelo GO (912-266-4848), or sign up for a tour with the DNR, call the DNR visitor center (which is located on the mainland, (912) 437-3224). You can also go ashore by dinghying upriver and taking the first creek on your right (Barn Creek), at the T in the creek go south. Pass the first dock you see (that's for residents), pass the second dock (that's for UGA vessels), and then you will come to the DNR dock. At present there is a Pacific Seacraft 34 on it; you can dock there for awhile. From there you can walk to the DNR visitor center and post office. Much nicer than the ferry dock.

This is a terrific yard if you want to do your own work. Rocky is patient and helpful. Lots of folks stay aboard in the boat yard. There could be better bathroom facilities but everyone makes due. We used Navionics to come up the creek and had no problem but I'd plan on coming in with the tide if you have over 6 feet. When coming in to the travel lift, approach from downstream -- skirt along the shore where there are many houses with docks. IOW come from downstream. Do not try to head straight in to the lift from the creek; there is a shoal directly south of the lift (west of the little island). You need to be in the top 1/3 of the tidal cycle to get in. Rocky is terrific and will help you -- and his yard crew is wonderful as well.

Top notch marina. Make sure to stay at least 2 nights so you can enjoy the island. Free bikes and golf carts let you explore. Very clean showers and laundry and a lovely pool under the oaks. Nice little restaurant right at the marina, or head over to one of the many other places on the island. Dock hands are very helpful getting on and off the dock given the current that runs past.
